Dentures
Dentures are removable replacement teeth designed to improve your smile and how your mouth functions. We provide partial dentures, for a few missing teeth, or full dentures to a replace a complete set of teeth on the upper or lower jaw.
Our dentures can either be made from acrylic, with a gum-coloured base plate and natural-looking prosthetic teeth, or cobalt-chrome, which features a thin metal base plate that can be attached safely to your existing teeth. Whichever type of denture you need, we will ensure it is tailor-made to fit securely and comfortably.
Dentures – a step-by-step guide
- We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your teeth, take impressions of your mouth and make a wax model, which we use to check how your dentures will eventually fit in your mouth.
- Your final set of dentures will be manufactured by skilled lab technicians and, when these are ready, you will be invited in for a fitting.
- When you have had a chance to try out your dentures, you may need a follow-up appointment so we can check the dentures are fitting and working properly.
After fitting
It can take a little while to get used to your new dentures. They may feel a little strange and eating can be difficult, so try starting with softer foods and slowly introduce harder items.
The amount of saliva in your mouth may increase, but this should subside as your mouth gets used to your new teeth. Your speech may also be affected, but you can improve this by reading out loud.
It is important to keep your dentures clean, so gently brush them with a soft toothbrush, using either toothpaste or soap, to keep them gleaming. If you would like to use something extra, leave them in a cleanser, such as ‘Steradent’, for around 20 minutes, and this will help to remove any stubborn deposits.
